Vacation Part I: Departure

It's been so long since I last posted that I had to go back through the last few posts to remind myself what happened last.

An update on the tummy time: it's going well. We moved on from the top secret preliminary test and moved into a more "public knowledge" phase (not really...Nell always knew I did it and didn't care...she just didn't want me to hurt the baby or something like that). Izzie is doing even better now. Here she is on July 25th (that's two weeks ago for those of you who are not savants).

Lynnell's mom came over to Billings to hang out with us for the last week of July. It was just before we went on vacation. It was fun to have her over. She was a huge help, and I know that Lynnell REALLY enjoyed being able to spend time with her mom and bask in the joy and beauty of motherhood with her. Thanks Shirley.

I took Friday the 27th off of work so that we could get a head start on the vacation. It was mostly because my dad and step mom were renewing their vows that Saturday, and I couldn't be late for that (nor would I want to be). I was correct to state that traveling would be a pain in the butt in my previous blog. I couldn't believe how much stuff we had to tote around. Of course, we will be gone for three weeks.

Luckily we have been blessed with a sweet van. It swallowed all of our stuff, a baby and three adults with room to spare. Shortly after I got the van packed, we shoved off.

Here's Izzie 5 minutes into the trip:

And here's Izzie 10 minutes into the trip:

She slept for nearly 5 hours straight. Such a good baby...yes you are...YES YOU ARE... :)

With only one pit stop in Butte to download some food to the baby, we made it to Lynnell's mom and dads in a record 7.5 hours (that's the longest it's taken us... not the shortest... definitely not the shortest).

We spent a couple of hours there and then headed to my dad and step mom's house to say hi and hang out for a little bit.

When we went to my dads house in May for the baby shower, I found out he was slowly turning into Dr. Dolittle. I'm not talking about the Eddie Murphy version. I'm talking the 1967 Rex Harrison Version. Gray hair, off key singing...gray hair. (just kidding dad). He had a baby squirrel and a baby marmot. He found both of them without mothers, so he adopted them. Well, I saw them for the first time since May, and they aren't little babies any more. The are really cool though. The squirrel (Sandy...after the squirrel on Sponge Bob Square Pants...my sisters named him) was the coolest. He would run around and jump up on you. Eat out of your hand and wrestle with your hand (like cats do). I played with him for about 40 minutes. It was cool.

The marmot wasn't as cool as when she was a baby. She's a little more skittish around strangers (me), so it was impossible to play with her. Dad said that she's pretty shy anyways and doesn't do too much physical activity (sounds like me). My little sisters love the animals though. Here's Syd feeding the marmot (Shadow) some sunflower seeds.

And then here's Syd holding Izzie for the first time (yes she washed her hands).

Here's Hannah holding Izzie. They love her to death.

That was the first day of vacation and I saw that it was good.
