We've been on Vacation
I'm sure a lot of my faithful readers have been wondering what's going on. Don't worry. I'm OK. We went on vacation, and didn't have high speed internet. Blogging is nearly impossible on dial up internet unless you have the patience of a Hindu Monk...which I don't. I went through withdrawals for the first 4 days (shaking, rapid breathing and excessive picture taking), but I came out ok. We still haven't made it home yet. Here's an email I exchanged with a coworker that sums it up:
Email from Wayne:
Hows things going at the homestead with the new baby. Holey crap I'm tired. We've taken a few mini trips with the kid, he's done well. Its such a process getting all of his [stuff] together to go anywhere, what a process, I'm going to have to get used to that. Hes definitely falling into a pattern now, we decided he doesn't like Jeopardy and doesn't like us to eat diner together. Always crys at 6:00 and 7:30, like clock work. Nights are getting better, still getting up a few times, the broken sleep is making it difficult for me at work. Its cute tho, we can get him to smile now, it’s the little things like that that make it worth it. How you guys surviving?
My response:
We are doing great. We just passed the three week growth spurt. You think you have it bad now. Ours cried every 1-2 hours because she was hungry. That lasted about 4 days. My wife was a wreck after about the third day (I can't blamer her). But, we pulled out of it. Now Izzie's back on her schedule (feeding about every 4 hours). I can't say I'm tired. I sleep like a rock. It's been almost 4 weeks (Wednesday) now, and I think I've only woken up a hand full of times. I seriously sleep right through it. I think it helps a lot that she doesn't sleep in our room. I would probably wake up then.
I hear ya on the evening crying. Izzie is crabby for about 30-60 minutes in the evenings. Luckily it's not every evening, but when she is…SHE IS. Turns out she doesn't like any NEW show that I watch. You know, the ones you really want to watch (or should I say hear). Oh well. I'm teaching myself to just turn it off and go find something else to do. It's been quite fruitful and productive.
I'll be initiated on the baby trips in the next few weeks. This Friday we are heading to Idaho (about 480 miles) to see family. We'll be there for a week. I'm not looking forward to house hopping (my wife's mom & dad; my dad & step mom; my mom & step dad). That will be the most stressful part of it. Not only do I have to pack all of the crap up twice (there and back), but at least 6 times. (shoot me now) Hopefully it won't be too bad. Nonetheless, we are VERY excited.
To top it off, we are headed straight to Hailey, Idaho (487 miles) after vacation (not coming back to Billings). I am headed down to work in the office there on some [client] stuff. We are just starting to gain them for a client. Looks like they have a lot of large projects that they will need some help on, so it would be sweet to get my foot in that door if I can. We would love to move back to Idaho. We'll be in Hailey for two weeks. Luckily POWER is putting us up in a condo and not a hotel room because I think my wife would go mad in a hotel room (I know I would). Then after the two weeks is up, we'll head back to Billings (500 miles).
Needless to say, it will be an interesting experience. I'm optimistic though.
Great to hear from you. Stay in touch. Check out pictures on my blog: http://www.engineeredupbringing.com/
I sent that email on July 23. Now it's August 6th, and we are in Hailey. I have tons of pictures and things to post about, so you can expect daily blogs until I get caught up.
