Izzie's First Birthday

I'm over due for another post I know, but we've been busy. I'll try to catch up in the next few days.

We didn't do anything special during the day for Izzie. We mostly hung out at home preparing for her party. Here she is is reorganizing some of the kitchen stuff.

Nell went and picked up the cake.

Then people started arriving and Izzie had no idea what was going on. At first she was a little weirded out that there were so many people in her house. I suppose it didn't help that at this point she was still fairly shy of people that she didn't know well. For a while she just stood there looking at people, and then she relaxed a little and started playing with some of the other babies.

Then the big moment came. We sang happy birthday to Izzie. She wasn't ammused, nor did she know what to do about it.

After we cut the cake we gave Izzie the first piece. She stared at it for about 20 seconds not knowing what to do with it.

Then she got a finger or two in it. After a quick taste she figured out what it was for.

After that I didn't have to show her what to do.

After a bit of nibbling you could tell that she was getting a little too much frosting. She started making some weird faces accompanied by the shivers. Then she just plain didn't want any. I let her play in it for a few seconds, but when she started to throw it on the floor, I called it a day for the cake.

Here's a video of the cake eating experience.

We told everyone not to bring a present, but some couldn't resist. Here's Izzie opening her first birthday present.

Her favorite part: the destruction of the packing and bag.

Nell and I were bad parents. We didn't have any presents for her to unwrap, but we did get her a puzzle (which she loves). Don't worry though; we bought her some presents the next day.

And that was it. Nothing special, but it was a very special day for us.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY IZZIE! I love you.

  • This totally remindes me of our stuffed little house parties when you boys had birthday parties.
I hope Izzie got the card Grannie sent her for her birthday.
It was great to see you last week.
    Love Grannie
